The Reckoning

2024-25.

A stacking game

39 lines of a poem etched into small clay pots, designed to be mixed up and moved around. The pots, loosely modelled on the meditative Kurinuki style, appear robust - but they remain unfired, vulnerable to breakage… An exploration of the fragility of the individual in relation to other… A reflection on how we rank relational responsibility. How would it be for the questions to crumble?

Who incanted the spell
To seed fields of dreams
Whose finger got stuck
Testing the soil
Drawing the line
Crossing the line

Who circled the square
Who carved angles
Into wheels
Into round flesh

Who poked the fire
Who heaved mountains
Up wobbly bridges

Who was a stepping stone
Half the answer to a riddle

Whose heart wrote a recipe
To rub balm on rough nights
With care
With wrath

Aided by angels
Dancing with shadows
Balanced on a precipice

Who dipped the first toe
Sent ripples
Cleared the karma
Sung hooks into hearts
Made the most moving moments

Whose eyes sparkled
Like a beacon
Like a mirror
Like home
Who wagered on weaving
Two sides of the same coin
Whose thighs bore the weight
Whose arms slipped away
At the slightest whisper
At the sight of ghosts
Who turned an attuned ear
To the highest good
